You know that the filter inside of the can is smaller(less filter paper) in the 51344 than the filter in the stock Honda oil filter for the S.

I was looking at one of the Canton filter housings with a replaceable element. Anyone tried one of those?

I tried it on my Camry and found out how important having an anti drain back valve was, the filter on the Camry faces down so it might be ok on the S. The filters are really small and the metal end caps get stuck on the filter housing.

my understanding from reading bitog is the 51344 has twice as much filter media as the 51334 which is the direct replacement for the pcx-004 filter.

I read your filter number wrong 51344 v 51334. Yes the 51344 is a little bit taller(0.875" taller) I don't know if a filter less than 1" taller will get you twice as much filter media but "more" is better than "less". So between the 51344 or the 51344 I would run the 51344. But since I run the Baldwin filter(for 65k miles now) that is bigger than both of the Wix 51334/51344 filters combined, I would run the Baldwin or the Wix 51182 on my S.

I would like to see the filter media out of a 51344 and see how much larger it is next to a 51334. When you change your oil it would be cool to see some pic's of the filter media like I took of the Napa 1334 filter.

I'll try to remember next oil change, any simple way to cut open the filter without making a huge mess that doesn't require some special tool?

if my math is right about the volume of a cylinder, which doesn't necessarily mean the filter media,

51344 = 37,897.518770405988871465135174314

51334 = 18,671.430870318027407112287942592

If you look in the upper left corner, you will see what I used(my daughter lost my oil filter cutter). I just let the oil filter drain for a couple of days then a hammer and wood chisel and it opened right up.
