Default oil level at the track?

I had some issue with oil stavation on my Miata about 4 years ago, I was running about 3/4-9/10 qt. low on it at the track and with race suspension and R-Compound, I had to replaced the engine because of it. How is the S2000 engine?

Anyway, do you think S2000 can get any damage to the engine when running like 1/2 a qt. low (maybe like 2-3 x's above low line on the dipstick)? On my Miata the problem didn't show up until like a week after the yrack event (when I noticed that I was losing lots of oil, blue smoke on cold start up, etc), check the compression and it was reading almost 0 on 2 cylinders and both plug were cover in oil. After athat I always run the Miata like 1/2 a qt. to even 3/4 qt. over full mark for the track use. Anyway, I don't know much about the S2000 engine but should I overfill the oil on the S2000 for track use (like 1/2 a qts. over full) just to be sure I won't stav any oil under braking etc?

Safest policy is to go with the dipstick right up at the full mark. And bring a quart of oil to top it off later on in the day. Overfilling is risky, because you can aerate your oil if you overfill very much at all.

There is absolutely no reason to not at least show up with the oil level up at the full mark.

Much at all? I've never seen any data as to how much we can over fill before we hit the crank.

I know you can put in atleast .5 qt w/o doing that.

just curious.

I usualy run at about half way on the dipstick because I find anything higher, like at full, just gets blown out the PCV valve and into the intake manifold.

There was a post on this, I think in the UTH forum. I agree, you can overfill a little bit, but the guy who made the post claimed that when he had his engine apart he figured out where the dipstick level was, and said there was almost no tolerance between the top of the Xs and the bottom of the crank.

Regardless, I don't think anybody has ever shown a definite advantage to running above the full line. An extra half a quart really isn't going to buy you much time if you ever get into an oil starvation situation anyway.

at .5 over I had overfill going through the pcv, at .5 qt under I spun a bearing. I will check the oil every session on my s2k for now on.
