Pro Driver vs. Speedventure Driver in Cal Speedway
I recently went up against a pro driver for a magazine event. It was called "Motor Skills" where a regular driver like myself competed against a Pro driver on the track for lap times using a same car. Best of all, it was a free track day at Cal Speedway!
The event was held at Cal Speedway infield which I never ran on before.
The pro driver assigned to myself was Samuel Hubinette. A factory sponsored pro drifter and ex volvo test driver from sweden.
Data Logger Info:
Sam uses 2nd gear aggressively but also seems to have to back down on the throttle a bit.
Not sure why I have a higher top speed.
Result: I lost by 0.007 seconds. I have video comparison and data logger comparison between my driving and Sam Hubinette (Pro Driver).

I really wished I have driven on Cal Speedway before. The craziest thing above all.. is how my car went from a stock S2000 to a MOD 170points in less then 7 days!
Rob, great job, you drive 0.07 sec less than a pro! ...nice feedback on the TEIN SRD's. I put in for the 20K springs, so i won't revalve yet.
get a 0.6 wide angle lens for video, it will let in more light and u will see entire steering wheel and shifter, and speedo readout when sun direction is right.
The difference between you is in you braking earilier for the big corners (high speed) corners. I think if you'd stayed on the throttle for as long as he did you would have beat him. Nice work!
Max brakes later at sector 11, which is the an interesting turn, u will get passed inside everytime in a race if you use the qualifying line. and THE SWEDE has a bobble in sector 5...or a lonnnnng 2-3(can't find 3rd..uh wait, got it)
Rob, great driving as usual . Did you get to go solo again after Sam? Sounds like shock settings and tire pressure may have been different between his best and yours. Also, .07 sec is probably within the error of the GPS based timer, so I'd consider it even.
I am reviewing the video and data logger info for more analysis. I didn't do any solo runs after Sam but I went around for a session with Stinkytofu as a passanger and constantly hit low 1:18.1 so I can do better next time.
I am getting used to these new shocks but they seems to perform very well with the R compounds. I might be testing out some Nitto R compounds soon. My car will be MOD for now and I might not spend any more money on it.
Stinky was kind enough to lend me his video equipment. I though my helmet is for a roll over protection?
Great driving. I noticed that despite the slower lap time, your average speed is higher, and max lateral g's are higher. You should look for a sponsor.
