Default Question for people blowing smoke clouds

My car has just started occasionally blowing what I think is blue smoke (not huge, but noticeable) when starting between sessions; first at Chuckwalla CCW, second at Wild Horse Pass Mondo configuration CCW.

A fellow S2000 owner was following me one session, and told me that my car blows smoke off throttle sometimes. I was not black flagged at all, so I can't imagine it's blowing huge clouds. The car seems to consume about half a quart of oil per 120 minutes of track time.
Is the smoke normal if I managed to pull oil during the cooldown lap, or should I be diving deeper here? It generally idles fine (sometimes the idle is a little rough), makes normal power, makes no weird noises, there is no CEL, etc. I don't have a proper catch can, I ordered a new PCV, but I think mine is fine as the car holds idle if I pull it out of the valve cover, but bounces idle when I unplug the line from the PCV outlet to the intake manifold.

I'd like to head off a possible issue before I end up shopping for an entire motor. The car has ~170k on it.

That was also my thought when I heard it was on decel, but I figured it should also smoke on cold start after sitting for a while normally, which it doesn't do.

Yeah, I'm going to do that, install a catch can, and check my 6 month / 10k mile old valve adjust.

Start with a catch can and the valve cover mod. I posted in that thread a slightly modified version of the valve cover mod that is WAY easier and can be done on your own in a few hours. Ive done this for a few S2KC drivers.

If you are still blowing smoke after that its time to look deeper.

Aside from installing a catch can, Why wouldnt you start with a simple compression test and a leak down? It’s simple to do and will actually give you some information to work with.

I went with an ap2 valve cover, and when I still blew clouds I installed a catch can (this one in particular: Brushed Bare Bones Oil Separator ) and I havent blown a cloud since. Catch can, imo, is the answer to this problem; and one that doesn't require drilling holes.

Catch can doesn't solve the problem, it just band-aids it. They also aren't street legal, at least in California. Drill the valve cover baffle and never worry about the issue again.
