Racing Slicks
going to try out my first racing slicks this weekend. Any tips ? have been running R compound for the last couple of years. running them on stock ap2v2 wheels. 225/245. There are non-dot hoosier continental/ grand-am tires. Similar to the R6??? Will be racing @ Autoclub Speewdway "roval" this sat/sun. thxs for any advice
I've never run slicks but I would think the transition would be similar to the move from street to r-compound or normal r-compound to Hoosiers. You'll have to force yourself to adjust your braking points. One of the biggest differences I see between NT01s and Hoosiers is the amount of slip angle the Hoosiers can take up front without understeering. Entering Turn 9 on Summit Point Main my NT01s understeer--if I add more steering input they don't react. But the Hoosiers feel the same entering the corner except if I turn in more they do react and take me down to the apex. It took me a while to discover this. You'll have to "experiment" a little to find out what the slicks can do.
While you should always be careful about what you read on the internet, consensus seems to be that the Continental Grand-Am tires are actually *harder* and slower than R6s / A6s since they're designed for longer races: http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...grand+am%22+r6.
