On further thought, your way should be better because when there is downforce on the wing, there is actually lift on the forward mounting points due to the rake in the mounts. Having the bolts go through the boxes should help with upward force, though no help with downward force. Ideally, you would want locking nuts beneath both surfaces with a long bolt, so you would have to cut the side windows to get the first nut in.

BTW, with expanding foam... don't ever let it dry on your paint, it's literally impossible to get off.

ask me how I know.

I need to surf over to McMaster and Carr and see if they even have a M6 stud long enough.

Here are a few pics of the wing, I test fit the pieces together.

There are 2 sets of mounting holes, the outside pair is just a tad too wide, that would have been the ideal spot IMO.

Well, my spare trunk lid arrived on Friday. So, after a trip to Home Depot, some drilling, dremeling and nasty metal shavings everywhere, it's on the car. It doesn't look to ricey now...does it?

I was able to mount it right at the end of the trunk lid, the wing actually hangs over the rear bumper.

I will post some images of the instal process when I get a chance.

Here are the steps I took to instal the wing

**Disclaimer** Proceed at your own risk !

I found a 2nd hand trunk lid in the for sale section. I installed the wing off the car.

The first step I took was to double stick tape the loose bracket mounts and rubber spacers to the bracket and assembled the wing.

Then I placed the wing on the trunk to figure out the mounting location.

I used a Sharpie to mark off the mount squares

Then placed the rubber spacers on the lid to mark off the drill holes

cont....

I used a hole punch to make the drilling easy. Then I drilled the holes, starting with a smaller bit at first.

For once drilled I flipped the lid over, watch out for the metal shavings..
I used a Step drill bit and a dremel to hog out the hole.

I could have been much neater, but this ain't a show car and it was cold in my garage. A file was used to smooth out the edges.

Then I marked and made a hole to access the rear most mounting spot (if you notice my marked spot was a bit off and I had to enlarge the hole.) Again the cold, patience, etc)

For the inside of the lid, I made up some rubber washers.

I also made up some wedge shaped spacers for the rear mount to counteract the curvature of the lid. These were made up from some Garage door trim I found at Home Depot and a Xacto.

I removed the wing and loosely bolted up the mounts, dropping the bolts and washers inside the lid many times I used the longer studs for both the front and rear mounts.

Then I attached the wing and tightened the whole shebang down. It seems pretty square and is very sturdy, I will spray in the expandable foam next to firm up the trunk.

Lastly make sure the adjusters are turning the same direction to raise and lower the wing angle.

Cheers,

George
