If they were shaved they're fine.. if they're that bald from full tread they're gonna be down on grip..
just curious, where does that info come from? i've read/been told that RA1 don't really ever heat cycle out and only need shaved for competition reasons. i just got a set (for track-day fun, not competition) and hadn't really considered shaving them... still probably won't, but i'd like to hear another opinion on it.

It makes sense to me that full depth RA-1's develop more heat and thus have less grip and a shorter life due to tread swirm. It also makes sense that a full depth tire would be more susceptible to chunking as a result of the increased swirm. On top of those reasons, I do it because everyone else does it

+1 for flipping them and increasing camber

Why would you guys suggest flipping the tire. They're obviously not from his car unless I misread what he said. If he's running a decent amount of camber wouldn't you end up cording the inside edge. The person that sold them states they didn't have enough camber.

By seeing freshly shaved RA1's the other day I would say they have 50% tread left.

50% is 4/32nds. This tire is 0/32nds on the worn edge.

some people run 3.5 to 4 degrees negative camber. Really only he would know how he wears tires out. If he wears out the edge more then definitely flip them but I would guess that's not the case.

Or perhaps maybe the seller didn't indicate that they were shaved? I dunno, it's all speculative. If the outer shoulders are cording and the inner shoulders are new, does that mean the tire is at 50% tread? Where does it end? :/
