Default Reinforcement removal

Has anybody cut out all the reinforcements from the hood, trunk, roof? Is it worth the effort in weight savings or moving the weight to lower areas? How much of an effect does it have on the rigidity of these parts, as far as making them flexible(damage) during racing?

Rylans hood and Trunk are gutted..
I am working on mine but I think i am going to leave the trunk alone cause my wing mounts to it.
my play with the hard top too..
I have not seen a hard top with the reinforcement removed.

I would guess that if anything were going to "buckle" or bend while driving, it'd be the hood. So if that's fine, I'd guess the rest would be as well. I do agree about the trunk though, and my wing mounts to mine as well. I wonder if the fact that it mounts right at the edge, where the trunk is supported by the car, would make much difference.

What are you guys doing to cover all the sharp edges? I just folded a piece of duct tape on the sharp edges of my door. Any better ideas?

What does your car weigh crash?

My only thought was not wanting the workers to get cut all to pieces trying to get me out...hopefully that will not happen...but better safe than sorry.

Are you just scraping the undercoating off?

most of the workers in the event of a driver removal would be wearing gloves and such but I get your point...Guess I will try something to cover them..

Werth (sp) Makes a undercoat remove tool...its still a major pita but it works
snap on has one too..

here is one
undercoat tool

the snap-on one

what about the bumper reinforcement, removing that and just putting like a bar, like tubing for a cage.

I've hit a wall before, and I'm keeping my bumpers in.
