Anyone ever tried wiping wheels down with quick detailed before heading out on the track?

Maybe easier clean up but my theory might be burning off as temps start climbing.

I do always wash my rims though before the next track day.
I had baked on brake dust on my stock wheels after a wet day using ferodo ds2500 and again using Carbotech RP2 so I believe any pad compound will do this if it gets wet and heated up during track use.

compressed air when I get home and blow it all out. Helps a little.

It wasnt too bad and it came off after about 20 minutes of scrubbing. Maybe its because the tirerack wheels dont have a clear coat like the weds

Nope not my black ones, I wonder how much it actually affects the amount of dust that can get stuck on though.

I used this after my last track day: http://www.proformproducts.com/en/pr...77&category=25. It's a basic solvent that works on almost anything and won't damage the finish. Awesome for tar and cone marks, too.

I haven't tried, but I would assume any strong solvent like enamel reducer, acetone or lacquer thinner would work pretty well. As long as your wheels are powder coated or cleared, it won't hurt the finish. If you spray-bombed them, stay away from paint thinner.

Or if you want to give it some elbow grease, rubbing compound will polish it off. Extra-cut would be quickest: http://detailshoppe.com/-strse-208/3...und/Detail.bok (also works magic on hazy headlights).

OP: go over to wash and wax forum and you can get some good info there.
I use P21S gel formula. If your wheels are cooled, this can be applied and allowed to soak/work for a little while. I've been able to keep my Black pf01's clean this way. However, p21s, Sonax, etc are really made to insure they dont damage the finish. For harder stains, you might have to graduate to an acid based cleaner. Check w&w for recommendations.

however, as said prevention is the best policy. Clean the wheels ASAP. And run black track wheels

Yes, black race wheels for sure. Funny thing is I used to have the black 949s and changed to the silver because I liked the look better. Never had a issue with brake dust until reciently when I went to a agressive pad.

Front- XR3 pad dust (yes these rotors are f@#ked I know)

Rear- XR4 pad dust

I've heard oven cleaner works great but I've seen what it does to anadized finish and I'm scared it would ruin my wheels If I used it. I'll work on them some tomorrow or this weekend and update my thead with results.
