S2K Challenge round 3 Chuckwalla
The 3rd round of the 2013 Megan Racing S2K Challenge was held at Chuckwalla raceway just north east of the Slaton Sea.
22 competitors braved the long journey for what was a perfect low 80’s day. The events format was a fast lap of the day, which included sessions 2-4.
For many this was either they’re first or second time out to this venue. The first session showed who meant business as it yielded the days first sub 2:00 min time.
In $uper Modified there were 4 competitors. Dylan Huig struggled to take his transponder out of his pocket for the first two sessions. While he did remember in the 3rd session he set his overall fast lap in Red 4. Dylan’s 2:02.232 was good for 4th place. Dave Lara took advantage of the cooler morning temps and threw down his fastest times of the day. Daves’s 2:01.862 put him on the podium. While Chris Elders was gracious enough to show the proper lines in the first session he set a blistering lap of 1:58.444 in Red 2 which was good for second place. With fresh rubber and a new borrowed aero package Dustin Dessero used Chris’s lines and set a 1:57.284 in Red 2 to take the top step on the podium.
Modified Class fielded 4 drivers. Yen-Wei Liu started the day in the mid 2:25’s. By Blue 4 Yen-Wei shaved off 10+ seconds to finish 4th with a 2:13.243. Third place saw the first female podium finisher. Patty McGray set her fastest lap in Green 4 at a 2:12.365 a full second quicker then her earlier laps. Dug C quietly ran in the low 2:04’s in the morning sessions. He then set his shocks to fast in Orange 4 and set a 2:02.487 which was good for second place. Fresh off of a SOWS win Brian Bengali was determined to top the podium. In Red 2 Brain set a 2:00 flat, but this wasn’t fast enough for him. With a little motiviation in Red 4 Brain dipped under the 2 min mark twice. His fastest lap of 1:59.565 secured his 1st place finish and showed he is a force to be reckoned with in Modified class. For Brian’s 1st place win he received a set of CSG 7075 Aluminum racing lugnuts!
Street Class proved to be the largest field with 11 drivers. Masley Tanaka took 11th with a morning time of 2:13.148. 10th place saw Harold Pham’s stripped out S2K clip a 2:13.003. In 9th Walter Chen from Megan Racing set his fastest official lap in Black 3 with a 2:11.040. Walter did manage to improve his time in the bonus session with a 2:10.673. 8th place Ameer (I can’t spell your last name) took his wingless S2k down to a 2:08.330 in Green 4. Albert Castro in his second Street Class event managed a 2:07.197 to secure 7th spot. Marc Gabay realized he was sitting in 9th after the second session and proceeded to find chunks of time. In Orange 4 Marc set his fastest time of 2:04.521 which was good for 6th place. Gary Yeung was fast right out of the gate. He set a 2:03.831 in Red 2 for his 5th place finish. Konstantin Nikiforov only completed 17 laps on the day. One of which was a 2:03.214 barely missing the podium by .018 of a second. Joseph Jafry was struggling with his new found downforce as well as lack of grip in T2. JJ took 3rd place with a 2:03.196. Ryan Houck showed up with a pretty slick BBK that he installed two nights prior. Ryan’s quickly found his pace in the first session lapping in the low 2:04’s. It wasn’t until Orange 4 that he set his personal best of a 2:02.442 for the second podium spot. With what seems to be the norm Jeff, AKA The Ringer shows up says hi and then drops a 2:01.429 to take another 1st place in Street. It was his 10th 1st place out of the last 11 S2K Challenge events. Can anyone dethrone The Ringer?!?!?
Congrats Street class participants!
Stock Class had some new faces as well as some seasoned vets. 4 competitors battled it out all day. Terry Rhodes took 4th with a session 2 time of 2:25.559. Chris Gau battled traffic in many of the morning sessions. With passenger Chris set a 2:18.239 in Blue 4 to step on the podium in 3rd place. Fernando Muga and Ryan Delgrosso were within a second of each other all day. Ryan set an early fast lap that Fernando chased after all day. By Green 4 Fernando set his best lap with a 2:13.527, which was good for second place. Ryan put his new wheels to work and set a 2:12.908 in Green 2 to take the Stock Class win!
Congratulations to all the drivers and podium finishers!!!!!
