Did you get an idea of the weight saved?

Cool! The only thing I would be concerned about is any possible reduction in stiffness as you had mentioned initially, but I am sure if the cage is gusset plated to the remaining A-pillar it should remain just as strong right? If not there might be chances to crack the windshield?

Reminds me of the Opera S2000 from years back! Re-enforce the crap out of that thing!

And don't forget the swiss cheese!

I believe, if I remember correctly, the Opera S2K was designed as a ultra light weight street car and retained the full or near full interior, including the interior door trim panels. It had full functioning doors etc and the cage did not have door bars. Therefore they Swiss cheesed everything on it to cut weight. Think it was in the 2100-2200lb range.

The A-pillar guts that were removed weighs 14 lbs per side. The pile of guts in my pic above is for one side only, so total weight savings is 28 lbs. Phil said it takes nearly a day per side to remove, requiring a lot of tedius cutting and slicing, so it's not a quick job to do.
