Thanks for the advice everyone. Will definitely keep that in mind for my next track day.

I have found I need to do 2-3 cycles to build up a good transfer layer with track pads. A cycle usually being about 6-10 hard 60-5mph stops one after the other until I get some fade and let the pads cool back down while at cruising pace.

It can be difficult to maintain the transfer layer if you aren't using the brakes in a consistent way. Going really easy on the brakes most of the day with them below their optimal temperature will just cause the transfer layer to be eaten away by the high coefficient track pads. So doing that and then going into a session where you are extremely hard on the brakes could definitely cause weird deposits and even some vibration through the pedal if it is bad.
^ This.

I think the uneveness is from the rotor being a little more hot where the veins are as opposed to ABS. (Not that its really relevant)

I had the same question as the OP...My rotors looked the same way, prob even a little worse with Hawk HP+ after a track day with lots of braking. I got some XP10 to try out, should I use new rotors w/new pads?

Probably. But if you can street drive the XP10s for a week or two, it might clean off the rotor surface enough so you can bed the pads in the night before going to track.

I agree.

On a different note but on this same topic.. It is definitely worth while to properly bed-in/burnish/re-bed your pads before going to the track or doing some spirited driving. The feel will be much better, remain more consistent, which makes it easier to keep the pads in their proper operating temps throughout the day, which means pad wear will likely be less as well. Also you shouldn't be getting any annoying pad squeak.

I think you're right. You can clearly see the shape of the internal vanes in the pad material. I've never seen a pattern like that before.
