This weekend was the unofficial Runoffs Practice that MidOhio holds before the official Runoffs which starts tomorrow. For those that don't know and need some incentive to start going to the Runoffs..... American Honda will pay for the practice day for any Honda competitor. Also AH give $500 start money for anyone who qualifies and starts the race in a Honda.
This weekend was a good news/bad news deal for me. Good news, is that I've gotten down into the 1:42s with the ATS carbon diff. Bad news is the top T2 cars are in the 39s. I'd be really curious to see what someone like Siani could do, so then I'd know how much room for improvement there is.
BTW, the diff alone is worth at least 0.6 seconds (with stock springs & sway as required by Touring rules) over my times I ran on the pro course last month. Hopefully, as soon as I have time, I'll be able to show you guys some screen grabs from the DL1, comparing laps/sectors with and without the ATS diff. The stock diff goes open about 6 places per lap, so this is a nice improvement and drive off the corner is considerably improved.
My hats off to my sponsors, Kumho, Cobalt & Koni, for having such great products for the S2000. Here's my Cobalt Spec VR pads after 6 sessions of Runoffs practice (i.e. hauling ass) stacked next to a brand new set. How's that for great wear.
Got my Koni 2812s dialed in today, so I'm all set for qualifying. Those of you that think you have to have remote reservoir to have good shocks are missing out. A lightweight version of 2812s is what was used on the BAR F1 car in 2002 & 2003. One of the suspension engineers from BAR is now in my office and he said they tried just about everything in testing (2 way, 3 way, 4 way, RR, no RR, etc...) as cost was no object and nothing offered the repeatability of setting adjustments as the 2812s!!! How's that for an endorsement!
T2 race is Saturday at 11am. I'm paddocked in the grass just above the paved upper paddock, 3 rows in from the infield access road and about 4 spots up from the upper paddock fence. I have to run back and forth to work every day so I won't be there all the time but I'll be there just before and after each qualifying session, unless it's going to rain, and there all weekend. Hope to see some of you guys up there.
I hope to be up there Jeremy! I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for the help at the Miata race. For comparison, I got a 1:44.8 best in the Miata with quite a bit less power, but much less weight and a really dialed-in chassis. If the chassis on the S2000 is dialed-in, I would suspect that a 1:40.xx range time is possible, but that's purely speculation. On other tracks I've driven, our S2000 is anywhere from 4-9 seconds faster than the best SM times.
Keep pushing, Jeremy and good luck in the official sessions! It seems that with a few more allowances we could have a shot in T2. It will be interesting to see the trap-speed differences, though - hard to pass cars that have 10-15 more MPH at the end of the straight! Keep up the good fight.
Kris Skavnes still has the King S2000 but he's got a STi factory ride this year. He only ran the S2k at LimeRock (where it won, just like last year). Ziegler rented it for BeaveRun (his Evo breaks a lot) but it was having ABS issue so he was several seconds back from me which was disapointing as I was hoping for more comparison. Tony Swan (C&D) is the only other S2000 at the Runoffs and he's got an '04 2.2L car, but he has some oversteer issues that he has not found the root cause of yet.
So far no CTS-Vs have shown up, but I expect to see Ziegler's Evo and at least 2 of the Skavnes/Rosenblum/Henderson STi's in the top 5, right up there with Don Knowles in his Firebird.
Hey Jlucas...very cool to hear you're driving. I'll certainly see you this week/end. I'll be there Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. My best friend/roomate is Trevor Hopwood in a GT1 Vette #41. Not sure where he's paddocked at this point but that place isn't that big. I can't wait to see you and the car!
Wednesday is an early qualifier for GT1 and should be some fast action that I'm looking forward to. I love watching T2 although it's tough on the S. T3 in the future!!??!??
Alright then...see you later! Keep it smooth!
Look for us!!!

wow.... i still have the stock LSD in my car..... if i had some desire i guess I could make my car a good bit faster.
LSD and i currently have tein RA's vs good stuff...plus for Honda-challenge I can use adj balljoints to get more camber....currenly i just run the max -2.1 for front...
if i got some koni's, LSD and better alignment capabilities I should be able to knock at least a second off my current times...??
