Rx8 vs S2000 on the track
Why is it that there are so many Mazda Rx8s on the track and you dont see that many s2k?
I just find it odd since the S2000 is much more reliable and arguably a faster car on the track.
Can anyone in racing chime in?

Where do you see that? Mainly miatae and s2ks here. Most track cars exc for the miata are not picked for raw performance value, but have originally fit other needs and came ito it by default. (Exc for some NSX/PCar/Ferraris/Loti.)
The only reason why I would go for an 8 is for the outstanding factory support, which is why I run miata, instead of nothing from Honda.

I've never seen an RX8 on track. Ever. I have seen a few at autocrosses, but not nearly as many as S2000s at autocrosses.
There are some "RX8"s (really, tubeframe factory-built race cars) that run in Grand-Am, but that's a whole different story.

the RX8 was more mass-market. So the yuppies who bought it initially with an automatic for the "looks" factor finally realized what fun racing is and got out with that.
S2000s are more of a boutique thing since they never came automatic, plus there aren't as many on the road IIRC.
Either way, it's pretty competitive between them....but on my last autocross (my first one) I still beat one rx8 that wasn't a complete novice driver like me.

I think he's talking about the Grand Am series. There are several factory RX-8's racing there. I don't think they have much in common with the street versions, though. There are so many of them simply because Mazda USA chooses to spend money on it, and Honda America Race Team chooses to race Accords and Civics.
