Default S2000 to be classed in new ITR class (tentative)

July Fastrack:

Improved Touring
Item 1. Improved Touring has thrived as a regional class since its inception, and is the "point of entry" for most new SCCA Club racers. It draws
large fields in most Regions, and new cars are being built each year. While IT is healthy now, it is aging. A class above ITS is needed to fill the
pipeline for the future. An increasing number of requests have been denied from members asking for higher horsepower cars to be classified. A
quick look at old SSA cars, T2 cars and T3 cars shows a plentiful supply of cars in race trim searching for a home.
Effective 1/1/07, the CRB recommends adding a new class and associated rule changes to the ITCS as follows;
Add ITR to the list of IT classes listed in section 17.1.4.
Add to section 17.1.4.D.7.a.1 as follows: Cars classified in ITR may utilize any wheel diameter up to 17" or retain their stock diameter wheels if
larger.
Add to section 17.1.4.D.7.a.6 as follows: ITR cars may use 8.5" wheels.
Included is a spreadsheet with over 30 cars representing our first pass at the cars that should make up in the initial classification for ITR in the
ITCS along with anticipated race weights using the ITAC's classification process. Manufacturers represented include BMW, Porsche, Honda,
Acura, Nissan, Audi and others.

Is 276HP from headers, no cat, intake & stock ECU box (what ever you can stuff in it) realistic?

because of the power estimate, which is why I ask if that's a reasonable power expectation

I'm thinking "15%? No", but I can't be certain. Did SCCA have any data to base that on or did they just have a single "stock to race" factor that they applied to all the cars? Most cars aren't as highly tuned as the S2000 right out of the box.

Then again for the Acura RSX-S they assumed 25% increase was possible. And they gave it even more weight than the S2000. I would love to see a rationale for those numbers and those weights.

They think an Integra-R will make 234HP and should weigh 2500, while they think the RSX-S will make 250HP and should weigh 3665. 1165 extra pounds for making 16 extra HP? Is there a typo here?

That was my thinking too. I'll have to get with UL and get some data for them. You would think torque would need to be in their formula somewhere.....

276 at the crank? yeah I'd say thats pretty realistic with an ems, there are no ecu's that fit in the stock box so if thats a requirement for ITR then no its not very realistic unless we all upgrade to 06 s2ks with flashable ecus.

I knew this was in the works, glad they've started.

This is not realistic unless you are changing everything into a body shell only and they add an update/backdate rule (which is not on the table for ITR). All the electrical is different in 06. DBW, fuse & junctions boxes, cam bus communiction, cabin harness, engine harness, etc.... It was already investigated heavily for the pre 06 cars running in T2 that really need to be able to edit the stock ECU (legal in T2).

The RSX-S weight must be a mistake. All the other cars are right about 11 lbs/hp (spec wt/IT hp), but the RSX-S is at 14.7.

Here it is sorted by power to weight. In that light, the S2000 is pretty reasonable; but I still wonder how practical it is for a club racer to add enough ballast to get the car over 3000 lbs!
