S2000 for track events
Anybody drives their S2000 as a track car?? Not on AutoX, but on a racetrack.
S2000 seems like the perfect brand new track car for me.. but most events don't allow roadsters.
Do you know of anyone with rollbars on their S2000??

Most of the non-competitive events (DE, lapping) allow the S2000 because the roll hoops although short, are mounted to the frame and are capable of supporting the car.
Several have had full roll bars installed which are considered mandatory if you want to use a full harness, or run in a competitive event. All of the installs I have seen are custom.

Here in Florida, stock S2000s are allowed to run in most Drivers Education events on tracks, but not all. Some organizers require open cars to pass the "broomstick test" whereby the top of your helmetted head must be 2" below a line drawn from the top of the windshield header to the top of the roll hoops. Interpretation of this rule will be interesting for the S2000 because the structural part of the hoop resides inside a plastic cover.
I inquired locally about installing a custom bar using the stock mounting points and the fabricator could make one for about $500 that would give me about 1" more bar height.
Cusco makes a roll bar for the S2000 and MG Racing (one of the site sponsors) has provided information on it. Search the archives with the term "roll bar" and I bet you'll find the thread.
And YES! The S2000 is a lot of fun to drive on the track.

I have the Cusco rollbar installed (actually it was labeled Safety 21) and do trackdays. It's allowed at Lime Rock, Pocono, Nazareth, etc. Its available from MG Racing for about $450. He may have some in stock. All you need to do to install it is drill some holes in the floor, and a couple of 2" holes in the rear parcel shelf. It's light and sturdy, everyone who's seen it agrees the car looks better with the rollbar.
For true racing you need a roll cage, which as far as I know is a custom item, but I don't think the car is competitive in any class.

Problem is, I don't think the S2000 would be that sexy anymore once you have a rollbar on.

We have a roll cage on our race car but as everyone has mentioned is a custom piece and requires to remove/modify several interior pieces, including dash.
Yes, the S2K is a blast at the track but from what I have heard is key to clasify it with cars at the same level, something I think the SCCA isn't doing for road racing.
Down here we have a series in which the car is a killer but looks like they are moving us up following SCCAs foot steps.

Do you have a picture of it Pepe??
The S2000 is a very nice car for cruising, yet it's very nice for the track too... Problem is, I don't want to cruise around with a rollbar. But most BMW CCA schools won't allow roadsters w/out rollbar.
If only I can afford a F355 .. then I won't have that problem.
