Short sleeves has made its way into HPDE and even TT's this past year at some events. Before this year, it was unfathomable. But shorts? You've got to be effin kidding.

why do you think I've been pushing for safety points (negative) at S2KC. Here are S2KC drivers going 5 seconds faster than Spec Miata (in roll cage, HANS, race seat, fire suppression, race suit, socks, shoes) record wearing t-shirt and shorts, in a soft top convertible. that just aint right. do you think I should propose new rule - negative poins for Nomex underwear ?
I do have HANS, I use it on my caged Miata. but can't use it w/o harness on my S.
I just saw Colakitty's (this year's S2KC mod winner) S at SOW today. he has Cusco roll bar, still has stock bulkhead. and he uses a harness also. just so you know.
Custom weld in is the only way to go. There are draw backs to bolt in bars....most notably you have to drill through frame rails / major structural features of the chassis and they are inherently designed inferior in an attempt to make them easy to install or work with the convertible top.
If your gonna use the HANS then get a seat with wings. The side impact - belt slip - broken neck scenario scares me......

As for lateral dangers, we're only a year removed from a reminder of what can happen. I've actually been looking at getting a new seat.

William is like a father to all the trackers in Socal. He makes sure we don't do anything stupid

One of the reasons I admire William so much (aside from massively likeable character and being a GREAT mentor at driving) is that he advocates safety more than anything.

good point, thanks for reminding us. winged seat don't cost much more, yet much safer. only issue would be hindering of looking side to side, but I've sat in some with smaller wings, they work pretty well.
I have the Double Diagonal Hard Dog roll bar with the bulkhead removed. The Hard Dog padding and leather pad cover (the padding with leather cover came out way better than I was expecting). I may be wrong, but another thing to consider is that I believe the Hard Dog bars that fit with the bulk head removed are 'wider' than the other bars.
Recaro Pole Positions's with Schroth Profi II ASM FE belts (anti-sub), and Mugen seat rails.
The only problem with this set-up is that the Mugen rails had to be tweaked to fit the Recaros. I am guessing this is because the Recaros seems to be a little wider than Mugen seats.
Other than the rail teak I am very happy with this set-up.
