SCCA sanctioned drifting?
Drifting appeals to a different crowd than autocross/road racing. It probably appeals to the same crowd that would rather go to an auto show (or even a burnout contest) than an auto race. It's more about what looks cool, instead of what goes fast.
To each his own. But I would make the same comment as above... I hope drifting does not have a negative impact on autocross/road racing. Do it on a different day, or at a different venue.

i personally think that's a crock of poo. I am very much into road racing and drifting as well though I don't enjoy aftermarket autoshows. I'm not particularly good at either but I'm sure there are many people that are good at both.
One person that happens to like both doesn't mean they go together. I'm sure somewhere there's a roadracer that's into Barbie dolls. Does that mean we should have a Barbie doll festival and an autocross together?
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss drifting and the guys who drift. In my local area Taka Aono is a top auto-x competitor (didn't he take Nationals this year?) and he and the Club4AG group are very active drifters. Doesn't sound to me like the two forms of competition are incompatible.
Sure, I wouldn't call it racing either. Some people say that about time trials too.

Drifting will take the world by storm.....soon, nations will unite in the art of drifting...... we will all celebrate and dance in the streets as word peace will be a reality ...... ok, maybe not. I really like drifting though
I tend to wonder if Taka's an exception. When I was working course the last practice, 4 cars scared the ever-lovin' crap out of me: 3 86AEs and that damn conemangling landyacht.
Sure, it looks cool when they go around slideways, but it's not so cool when the rear bumper is spewing cones all over the course. They're gonna hurt somebody one of these days...

See I do call it racing, it's just racing with a twist of car show.
People can race anything from formula cars to bar stools to belt sanders. Drifting takes still to do it well, no argument there.
I just see it as a sport that is more for show than for driving. So that makes me very uninterested in it.
More power to them, I already think far too many people are into drag, but that doesn't mean its not a legitimate competition too.
