I'm thinking of investing in some racing seats for my car. I've never had racing seats in a daily driver, and wonder how comfortable its going to be. While searching around it seems that there are no reclinable racing seats that will fit the S. How much more uncomfortable will I be? I'm about 6' 180lbs. Also what is going to be the best seat for the car? Also one more question, how much do the stock seats weigh? Thanks.

With very limited choices for much more money than I could afford I was at a loss for stable track seating. I asked around and Schatten had a suggestion that has worked very well.

A simple supplemental belt for $14 really helps on the track and was an improvement I could afford.

cdelena, I was wondering at what height you wear the belt?

Although you could wear it high to hold your torso again the back, I chose to wear it low to hold me in the seat. Not as secure as a real harness, but much better than the stock belts.

i had a sparco rev in my MR2 Turbo. It was very comfortable. More comfortable than the stock seat (but my stock seat sucked).

The rev is a non-adjustable seat probably $450-$600. You will need the seat, brackets, baseplates, and sliders. Actually, sliders are optional. brackets are only necessary for side-mount seats like most of the racing bucket seats are (like the Rev). Bottom-mount seats don't need these like the Recaro SRD or Sparco Torinos.

I wouldn't get adjustable seats. If you do that you should just keep the stock seats. They aren't that bad. Just be sure you use them correctly (nearly straight up, use your left foot on the dead pedal to push you into the seat and push a little on the steering wheel to push your shoulders into the wings).

If you go non-adjustable, I would visit the sparco show room which should be not too far from you (like an hour?). They have all their seats in their showroom mounted so you can try them out to see what fits your frame the best. I weighed 165 at 6' and the rev fit me very well. It could probably fit a 180lb person as well. Don't get a cheap seat like the sprint or any seat under $400. My brother has the sprint in his SE-R and it feels like a kid's seat.

Hope that helps.

oh yeah, i've never seen any aftermarket seat weigh less than a factory seat. mostly because the factory seats use very lightweight metal for the mounts where the aftermarket stuff is thick heavy steel. They have aluminum mounting hardware available which is much lighter (and will lighten your wallet quite a bit as well) but overall I don't think you will lose any weight by installing a seat.

Sadly, I've never seen a baseplate that fit either (all required modification). Most baseplates are made by the same company (that makes them for recaro and sparco, etc).

Thanks for the info minboost. So where is the Sparco showroom? I didn't know it was in California. I was thinking of getting the Roadster for my car. I was looking at pics of it and am a little confused. I notice it doesn't have any "holes" on the sides for a 4 point harness to go through. Would I still be able to run 4 point harnesses with these seats?

the roadster sides are low so the lap belt of a harness doesn't need any holes to go thru...so yes it works.

all fiberglas or composite seats weigh less than stock.
