The title of this subforum is "racing and competition."

HPDE is neither racing nor competition.

I think there is a lot of grey area that's being discussed here. Althought one clear point that I didn't realize and think is interested is R&C is just that R&C, not HPDE. That for me makes a huge difference
[QUOTE=PedalFaster,Feb 8 2010, 08:37 AM]For what it's worth, I've been moderating the forum as if it's called "Racing, Competition, and Track Events", and wrote the posting guidelines that way too.

I think the title is ok, but track events are included here and you're correct in how you're moderating it.

The forum could be called "no touge"

Everyone seems to know to come and post here regarding track events, and I can't remember seeing anybody chastised for posting in that regard.

Besides, I've never been to a track event that isn't a little bit competitive.

seems like the questions generally asked in this forum are on topic. yeah, there's a few off-topic discussions, but... that's with any forum.

although I'm not a "racer", by it's truest definition, the knowledge I've gotten in this forum has helped me become a more competitent driver at HPDE, NASA-TT, and other non W2W events.

This forum has included HPDE ever since I've been on the site.

I like it the way it is.
There are plenty of builds and threads regarding HPDEs here.

I think the conflict with HPDEs comes when new users come in thinking that HPDEs are "racing." Just like they think Street Racing is "Racing."

It's the same mentality of car >> driver that (I feel) should be discouraged in this subforum.

That's why I like the subforum geared towards "Racing and Competition" attitudes / perspective. Pretty much anyone who has done any competitive driving in a "class..." whether it be autocross or karting, knows that driver >> car.

I think of it this way: even if someone is "not competitively" autocrossing, we welcome them here. Same thing with HPDE.

But if someone with no experience comes in talking about building a mad tite car for autocross, we redirect them. If people talk about building a mad tite car for the track, same thing.

(and once again, just my $0.02)
