As an autocross novice, I humbly submit the following question as I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere else:

Is it against the rules, or against etiquette, to make a drawing or notes on a notepad while walking the course prior to the event? I really wish I could do this, as I feel like I can't remember the course after walking it, but I have never seen anyone do it. I suppose part of the challenge of solo2 is that you have to learn/memorize the course quickly?

Thank you to any more knowledgable than I that take the time to answer.
Many national events give you a map at registration. Notes are fine. Camcorder in a wagon, iffy.

But if you've got a small kid in a stroller...

Do ride alongs with the group running before you. If you ask politely I think most people with an empty seat will let you fill it. You might want to steer clear of the hardcore crossers but I think the novice group would love the company. The course always looks different from inside a moving car.

As far as I know, our region does not allow passengers at Championships unless they are instructors.

That is illegal at almost all events.

This surprises me as I have seen it at routine points events in my region (non-national), however, it is my first year at this. I will ask about it next weekend and apologize for the misinformation.

This is a local choice. Check your Supplemental Rules. In CDR, for regional events, we always encourage Novices to ride along, in order to accelerate their learning process.

As stated above, this is region specific. Locally, we allow novices to ride with designated instructors.

Yeah, here in Atlanta, we allow passengers in any car. Since it's really a disadvantage to tote another person around it's done at the driver's discretion. We encourage ride-alongs because it's good for everyone. You get to see a different perspective of the course and you may learn from either the person you are riding with or the person who is riding with you.

I've learned a lot from having a good driver ride with me and point out bad moves I made.
