Post SpeedVentures event on 1/27/07...

I just signed up for a SpeedVentures event on January 27th. The event will be held on the "big track" at the Willow Springs Raceway. This will only be my second road racing event thus far. Back around summer of this year I participated in a "track day event" held on the Streets of Willow. I had a great time, spun out three times, and met a lot of great people.

My S2000 is going to be drastically different this next time out. When I say drastic I am referring to a huge increase in power. My setup will be along the lines of:

inlinePRO turbo kit w/GT30R turbo, ~350-400rwhp
Richmond 4.57-R FD and Comptech reinforced diff
Ground Control coilovers with Koni Yellows, 375/325 spring rates, full stiff front/full soft rear
TBD on wheels/tires, but possibly AP2 wheels with RA1s
GFL roll bar and Sparco 4 point safety harnesses

As I mentioned before this will only be my second time road racing and my S2000 is going to be pretty dang fast! I am concerned that the car is capable of much more than my driving skills, and am looking for some advice. My plan is to take it easy around the corners and only go WOT on the straight-aways.

I was going to sign-up for both days, but I didn't/don't want that much track time all at once. I figure by the time I get done with event it will be time for some new pads.

Uh... that's not really road racing... it's still a track day.

So long as you don't get crazy, Willow is a very safe track. And Speedventures runs a great event.

Keep your steering, braking and throttle inputs smooth and do your best to learn the driving line for the track. If at all possible, get an instructor in the car with you as often as you can, and ask to ride along with instructors to see what it feels like to actually go fast.

Here's an in-car video, a track map and a description of the driving line to help you out.

Take it easy your first time, slowly build up your speed. You will have some scary moments, running wide out of turn 2, having the back end come out going up turn 3 in to 4 and late apexing turn 9.

If you do it right, with the power you have you could be easily in to 150+ mph on the straight (If your gearing can go that high). Just be careful and have fun.
