splitter installation
I was looking into getting an APR splitter for my 03 s2k and was wondering if some of you could share some insight on the installation process. I am confused about if this mounts on top of the undershield or replaces it. Does it come with hardware or do you just use the stock undershield hardware? Any other tips? Please post pictures (even if its a non apr splitter) of the underneath so I can get an idea of what needs to be done.

If you buy it new you will have to drill the mounting holes in the splitter. It comes with longer under tray mounting bolts but they were too short. I bought a whole new set of one size larger and longer bolts and clip-on-nuts from ACE hardware. The APR splitter also comes with 2 adjustable rod supports (small turnbuckles).
You put the car on stands, remove the nose, put the splitter on top of something that will hold it up against the bottom of the car. I used a cardboard box. The splitter bolts to the stock plastic under tray and nose. Use the under tray mounting holes & hardware to mark the hole locations on the splitter. Drill the holes in the splitter larger than required so you'll have a little "slop" to work with. The APR splitter is so small it doesn't need the rod supports but you can install them for the looks if desired.
I replaced my APR splitter with home-brew 3/8 inch plywood splitters. If you put a nice thick primer on the plywood it will look smooth. Most people thought my splitters were carbon fiber or composite. By building my own I got the exact size splitter I wanted.
To get the shape just put the plywood under the nose and mark it 1, 2, or 3 inches away from the edge of the car's nose then cut it with a jig saw, sand, primer, paint, then follow the above instructions.

That's what friends are for. As for shape, cut a block of wood the length you want your splitter to extend, then use it to trace around the car's nose (for racing rules the measurement is from the "shadow of the car, not the bottom of the nose). You can also shave & file it to get the perfect shape. Did you make it too big? Trim it to size, sand/paint/reinstall. For a large splitter you'll need 4 adjustable support rods (I can't remember where I sourced my 2 extra rods).
Current 1 1/2 inch splitter (max for Honda Challenge)

Mongo splitter (5 inch, max for PTB/TTB)

This splitter was too big, I actually dropped over a second a lap when I trimmed it to 1 1/2 inch.

don't mean to thread jack but I'm assuming you were slower cos of drag rob? how much drag does a splitter create say vs a GTC-200?
Yea, slower because of all the drag of the bigass slplitter created. I don't know how much drag but I was over a second-a-lap faster when it was trimmed from 5 inches to 1.5 inches.
This is proving to be a huuuge bitch to get to fit right... If my undershield wasent all messed up, it might not be so bad but this sucks.
That's why I say to make the splitter mounting holes a little larger and using much longer bolts helps get them started into their mounting hardware.
I bought 25mm bolts so that was good to go. The problem is the previous owner got into an accident and the radiator mounting area is tweaked causing the undershield to be misaligned and it's making it much harder for me to mount the thing... Dosent matter now anyway because my mom threw a shit fit telling me I'm going to burn the house down with that thing on there so either I park outside or no splitter... unless I "get the one that's made to be under the car"
