Default Spot weld upper CA as preventative?

I am finally finishing up my car and really just want it back together. It is an 01 that will see a handful of track weekends a year. I won't be running R-comps, but will run race pads. I am debating if I should weld the front, rear upper control arm pocket as a preventive while it is apart? I haven't had issues yet and am kinda of the "if it isn't broke don't fix it" mindset, plus I will need to wait until my brother in-law can get over with the welder. So is there any harm in waiting until it starts to show signs of failure or should I be doing this while it is apart? He will be finishing his shop and if I wait a couple months I can do it on a lift with more space, but will I need to unbolt the upper arm to do it properly?

People track for YEARS w/o issue. Seeing how your on street tires yet, you should be fine but keep an eye on it an plan for it sometime in the future.

and if it's broke it's much harder to fix than if you had done it as a preventive maintenance check - knowing that others have had this specific failure. I know of three separate locals that i've tracked with who have torn theirs on RS3s.

Similarly, you could keep the original ap1 oil banjo bolts in and wait for your motor to break.

When you're on track, it's your responsibility to maintain your car for the the safety of everyone else on track and for the longevity of the hobby as a whole.

a lot more info here.

Mine have no issues. 05. Maybe the ap2 have a better structure for the arms. I run buttonwillow and u have to fly off some turns to get best time and mine are holding up.

This isn't about the arms it's about the upper arm mounting points. On the AP2 this area was reinforced. Honda even made the gusset plate that is sold by Spoon to be able to reinforce this area. I know of many people with AP1s who have had the Spoon gusset plate installed after tearing an upper arm mount.

OK oK. I get it. Inspect your sh!t.

Should every AP1 w/o reinforced welds be barred from the track?

Yes I did the oil banjo bolts.
