SSM classed S2000s?
Hi, I'm fairly new to autocrossing, so I'm not 100% sure how the classing works... but the local guys tell me that a turbo S2000 falls into into SM (though everything online seems to point to SSM? Maybe our region doesn't have that class though? idk...).
Anyways, I've only seen a couple S2000s on here running in either of those classes (Ex: Ckit). It seems like most stick with BS or STR. Just curious if there are more SM/SSM S2000 builds out there that I haven't seen. If you have one or know of one, feel free to post about it here or link the build thread.
Thanks.

I don't expect to ever really be competive in the class (especially not on a National level), just doing it for fun (and to learn the car's limits) mainly. Thought there might be some of those people as well. Maybe I'm wrong, lol.
Or maybe I'd have more luck just posting in the FI forum?

Don't see any reason why the car couldn't be competitive. Just your gonna spend a small fortune doing it. Just like all the front runners have on whatever car they happen to be driving.
Costs a lot of money and in the end it's still damn near impossible to catch a properly built SSM RX7 that can put down 400lb of torque and fit 315s in the rear. I happen to be in SSM because of my "track car" mods and might even dabble in adding power and running Hoosiers next year just for fun but at best my goal is to close the gap to the front runners. Winning is a whole different story. If you want to be a winner in a S2000, BS and STR are your best bet, BSP is also an option. I'm assuming equally good drivers of course.
Here's a good example from this past weekend. The car in front of me as I stage is the Hamfist Racing RX7 driven by the seriously fast Jake Namer. Watch him launch and then disappear in the first set of corners. I just don't know if even a boosted S2000 can hang with that:

I would love to run an SM car some day. Although, even though I love it in STR, I am not sure that I would pick an s2000 due to its smaller displacement and the fact that you can't stuff giant wheels and tires underneath it as easily as other front running SM cars. (I may be totally wrong on that one though as I have never really tried larger than 255's). I would imagine that an S2000 would take more money to be competitive with the other SM cars which is why we dont see them. I would really love to run a hardtop mkiv supra stripped down with a big single turbo just because so few people ran that car and I think it could actually do better than most. I know GTRs are doing well in sm and they have at least 600 lbs of weight on a prepared hard top. Plus as much of a handful as I suspect it would be, I am sure it would also be a tonne of fun.
At any rate. You've already got the turbo. My suggestion would be to pick up a set of wide wheels, stuff some hoosiers on them and focus on dialling in a good suspension if you want to try your hand at SM. Locally, provided you have a quick spooling turbo, I bet that would be pretty competitive and a lot of fun.
