Default ST40 BBK without fender roll?

Hey all,

I’m loving HPDE events and I’m looking at moving to a square tire setup which means at least 2 new wheels.

Based on feedback from the forum, I’m considering a BBK in considering the new wheels and it seems the ST40 is the best kit for a street car with occasional track use.

Are there any wheels that can fit the ST40 and a 245 or 255 tire up front on a stock height car without rubbing and without fender rolling?

Or is that a unicorn?

TSW Nurburgring in 17x9 +63. They're a bit harder to find now, due to supply chain issues.

That said, even with 245 square, I'd say you should at the very least bend the fender-liner tabs upwards, as those are likely to get caught when the suspension is loaded and you counter steer into a turn to correct for sliding.

I have read quite a few threads that say the Nurburgring will fit the ST40, but it does seem to be a back and forth as to what tires will fit without rubbing up front. I know I don’t want to have to buy new fenders and have them painted so I definitely want to avoid catching the fender with the tire.

I guess I could go with 245’s and tape the hell out of the fender liner and see if I get any rubbing?

But if I do, the only real answer is to roll the fenders, right? I’m running stock height with Ohlins FPSport and 11k swift springs front and back. And I’ll get an alignment to add some aggressive camber as well.

Stay with a 245/40, 17"x9" wheel, dial in -2.5 - -3.0 camber, and an effective wheel offset that's not less than +50, and you'll fine. You DO need to verify the wheel you select will clear the brakes. If you're using a wheel that no one else has, you can print out the template from StopTech to check on a physical wheel. As Bullwings said though, still recommended to bend up the tabs.

The Titan7 wheels for the the S2k are 17"x9.5" which are designed to clear the brakes, but also designed for 255/40 tires. So..... that setup will most likely rub without rolling the fenders because the tires are wider and taller.

Going to a square tire setup, personally, I'd recommend going up to 13k springs in the front to pair with your 11k in the rear. That should give a good baseline and you can tweak with sway bars and alignment.

^ I have T7 TR10s and I’m pretty confident that even with 245s in the front you still have high risk of rubbing. I’m running 255 RT660s right now and even with -3.2* camber the tire shoulder comes right to the fender lips. Now RT660 run wide but even with 255 RS4s I did rub once. You’ll also rub like crazy on the back at the bumper tabs.

That motoiq article was really great! It's nice to see all the aspects of the brake kit and install process. Thanks for sharing that!

I'll definitely need to work with SakeBombGarage on redesigning my suspension setup if I move to a square setup.

Shift9303, are you saying that the Titan 7 front wheel will rub like crazy on the rear fender liner tab with 255's?

They will rub at both the front and rear wheels. At the front you can catch the fender and at the rears the tires will rub the bumper tabs even after fender roll if you don’t massage them upward. The only way Moto IQ were able to run that offset is because of the offset top camber joint.

With a 255 square setup and especially if lowered at all, just assume you can catch the fender. Dont wait for it to happen because you can destroy the fender if it does happen. At best it will bend it, but many times tears the fender lip. I have mentioned this before, but so it is out there and clear, I have caught a fender (luckilly just barely and only tweaked it a tiny amount) with +63 offsets, 255 square setup, lowered an inch with -2.6 degrees of camber. That was full lock, sliding and went off the track in the grass where it was bumpy, but it can happen. So just go into this knowing you should roll the fenders like others have said. I know people that just street drive that run low offsets and will say they work fine. But they just have not gotten into the situation where it will happen. And that one time can ruin a fender so not worth the risk.
