Default Staggered Setup

Hey everyone, so i have a set of 17x7.5 rims front and 17x8.5 in the rear. I want to run a squared setup but for the time i cannot afford to switch rims. I saw on tire rack that the widest i can fit in the front is 245/45/17. If I was to run 245/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear, will that be similar to running squared? Or would i be better off running 225 front and 255 rear? I also plan to get a rear wing, front splitter and maybe canards. Thanks!

I would save up a little and get the tire rack wheels for $164/each

Is your driving limited by the 225/255 setup? If not then just drive faster.

OP, I notice you're local to me. If you do track the car, which tracks do you frequent?

I wouldn't put such a large tire on the front rim. The front is going to feel numb and sloppy. I recommend going with 225/255 if you're stuck with those rims for now. Buldgy front tire vs stretched rear tire (relatively speaking) is the opposite of what you want.

Yea i actually only started to track my car last year, tracks that i probably will visit often are shannonville, cayuga and mosport most likely. I don't think i have the skills to push my car close to its limit and i think 225/255 will be a safer setup for me. Only thing is i want to get a gt wing for track/aesthetic purposes, so im worried the car's front and rear grip wont balance. I do plan on getting some front aero (splitter and canards) to balance the wing but im not sure will this work well with a staggered setup.

You don't need a wing. Find the cars current limits first before you try to increase them.

That's definitely one option im thinking of haha. But i do think once i feel that i have a solid grasp of my car's limits, i will get a wing. So lets say if i stick with my current rims and have 225/255 setup (because i love my ssr type Cs lol) and get a wing, will a front splitter be enough to balance the grip?

Personally I'd probably go for 245's all around with your current wheels. The front tires take a real beating and the extra meat will help. You could also extend the life by rotating the tires (not the wheels of course) once about at the half life of the front tires.
