Thumbs up Start Up hesitation After A Spin...

I went to Buttonwillow on March 29th and spun my car twice. After spinning out the engine seemed to hesitate to start. Why does this happen?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Did the engine stall when you spun?

Possibly fuel starvation - the fuel sloshing around in the tank, and as a result, the pickup ran dry for a moment?

Im not sure what happens but cars dont like it when you go from forward to reverse while in a forward gear.
Maybe starter/alternator gets strained (just thorwing something out there)??
I have no clue but I get the clutch in ASAP now.

My engine didn't turn off until I was about 5 mph from stopping. I never considered the pickup running dry though. That could very well be the case because after I had a nasty spin (from about 7500rpm in 4th to 0mph) the car seemed to sputter a little bit and by the time I got to the pits it starting acting normal again.

The second time I spun out (on pavement 360 degree spin) the car only hesitated for about 3 seconds and then proceeded to operate just fine. It never sputtered and I got a chance to finish my session with no problems.

I remember putting in the clutch while spinning the first time as I was going backwards for about 2 seconds. I never really considered what would happen if you were to go backwards in a forward gear after spinning, but it has to be bad. I usually kick the clutch to minimize the amount of dirt the engine will suck in.

I doubt it was the alternator as the engine turned but it just wouldn't start and/or stay on.

I have had this happen a couple of times. Usually it will restart after you turn the key off and back on. One time we did a 630

This is very common. It's probably a fuel system / ECU issue.

Always declutch and keep the engine running, so you don't get stuck sitting in a bad place on the track with a car that won't start!

Are suggesting my car is having/had a fuel system/ECU issue? I never got a check engine light and now I'm curious about what you are referring to.

PanteraKitty: I'll remember that for next time.
