Stock class mods
Looking for some advice - I'm going to be running in A-Stock at Milwaukee and Topeka, I want to be sure I'm legal.
1. Do shift knobs fall under the 'comfort and convenience' rule? I don't believe so but I have some people telling me that they do. If it is legal, I'd rather go to a ball-style knob like the CR just due to personal preference.
2. My camera mount completely replaces the windblocker on the secret compartment. Is that legal or should I make something that leaves the windblocker in place? The camera and mount are much heavier than the windblocker but again I have a feeling that it's not legal.

Neither are legal.
If you plan to run at national events, I'd take care of it. If you're only playing regionally, just ask the people you run against. I doubt anyone would care about those minor things.

I'm no autoX expert, though.
A. Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance,
comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on
performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the
weight of the car are permitted. This does not allow driver

basically the camera is ok.
If the shift knob is lighter than stock is illegal, same weight is ok.
The shift knob is only ok, if it is lighter than stock, is you have an 08 model s2000 and you perform a complete CR change over.
If you did plan to run the shift knob bring a scale so you can have proof of the weight. You might as well plan on there being a protest with it.
Most just say its not worth it and put the factory back on.
(I run the CR knob locally and switch to stock for national tours)

The camera is not okay, because you have removed a stock part to install it. The analogy is the example of the mirror. You can add another mirror, but you can't remove the stock one to do it. I made the effort to design and build a mount that allows the wind diverter to stay in place. Modifry.com sells a similar one.
I think that a shift knob ought to be legal under C&C but the traditional interpretation is that "alters the driver interface" and is a performance benefit by making it easier to shift. The same used to be true for alternate seat cover material, but opinions seem to have shifted in that area and it's generally accepted now. If you want to find out for sure, run with an alternate knob at a national event. But bring the stock one with you in case they say "we're not going to penalize you for this, but fix it for tomorrow."

It would be a weenie protest, but with people removing the dealer installed spoilers, side strakes, and etc. at national events, I would just get a modifry mount and try to be 100% legal, esp. if you get in the trophies. I for one, don't care about the little stuff and even encourage s2000 owners with mild bolt-ons to run so they are in a competitive class, but the rules are there and breaking them is cheating no matter how significant.

[QUOTE]Autocrossers
Next, we have the autocrossers, a special breed among themselves.
Are you planning on trophying? if not, just use it and if you are protested, then cave to the protest and throw your time. If your serious to the point where this event really matters, then dont do either mod.
If not, then just do the them, and bring the stock knob and and wind deflector, and ask around. If you get a negative feeling about it, then hose the idea and put it back to stock.
