Default STR -> SSM -> XP

Last weekend I had an opportunity to finally see Jason Collette's phenonmenal XP S2000. That thing is absolutely incredible. It got me thinking about the future of my S2000.

I think after a few years in STR it would be cool to move to SSM. I wonder just how competitive it would be against those RX7's. What would someone have to do to make it competitive? I think the biggest step is an appropriate power adder but other than that I have no clue. Any thoughts? I searched and couldn't find anyone on here running SSM.

Talk to CKit.... I'm sure he's got a bit of input

It's not a cheap endeavor, but watching his car run was some of the coolest autocross spectating I've done.

And that's the problem. Andy McKee has posted that you could clone his SSM RX-7 for ~$40k -- not cheap, but not outrageous compared to the cost of an SS or ASP car. The problem is that Andy and Eric most likely each have six figures into their respective cars, as they had to blaze the trail and do the R&D.

No one's done the R&D for a truly top-level SSM S2000, so it could get pricey -- *really* pricey -- for the first person to go there. That's not just money, but also time, brain cycles, and sweat equity. Keep in mind also that neither Eric or Andy is resting on their laurels either, which means that anyone who builds an S2000 (or some other car) to match theirs will have to keep spending to maintain parity.

Here is an old FS add from 2009 for a XP RX7 just for reference.

We have one driver locally who used to run her S2000 in SSM.

An SSM s2000 would be interesting, but pricey. Start with Jason Uyeda's BSP car, add boost, strengthen weak points, and a bigass wing. I'm absolutely loving my FP car, though I've spent more learning what not to do than I care to admit. If you can start with a totaled car and rebuild it in yearr one, then spend the next two years making it competitive, the cost is manageable.

I think the better option is:

STR --> gut and cage ---> SCCA Club Racing. You can run ITR and T3, IIRC.

That's what I'd do if I had it to do over again.

And FYI, the car Beth Strelnieks is running in FPL at Nats is an ex-club racing Boxster that could do double duty.

Im very interested in this topic as I have been running in STR this entire year. I have had a blast in STR although there has not been a hole lot of competition in my local events. There are some CR Str setups that run in "pro class" and they have bet me every event but besides them I have been doing pretty well and have won all nine events this year.

I currently have a AP1 with all the typical str parts such as Front sway bar/strut bar/NO rear sway/exhaust/header/intake/coils/17x9 wheels with 255 RS3s/good alignment

unfortunately I am definitively lacking power even on the short autox straights and certainty for DD fun... Therefore I have ordered a comptech supercharger and will then be moving into SSM !!

I have done some investigating locally looking at previous results and I would have taken first or second in SSM in my STR setup. Most of the winners locally are turbo miatas on r comps.

So my plan is to use all the suspension tuning learned from str, keep rs3's b/c I do not want to trailer or switch wheels/r comp tires out and with my added supercharger power I hope to drive to every event and toast some of the competition.

Eric
