Default Street class tire for Time Attack/Time Trial?

Treadwear rating is a minimum of 140 in order to be considered a street tire. Since I normally run RA-1's, any street class tire I purchase would most likely pull double duty as a r@!n tire and actual street tire, too. My selection will not be limited by ambient temperatures.

Has anyone actually used the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position? Other suggestions?

Thanks,
Skip

Sumitomo!!! StinkyTofu used the RE-01R to win a Time Attack out in California IIRC.

Because of the possible "r@!n" tire use, I'd not choose the BFG KD's. I've always wanted to run them though. I liked the KDW-2 tire for general purpose- very good in the r@!n.

The Falken RT-615's will never go on my car again. I had a set of them in 245/275. Hated them- sold them. Some folks love them, and they're cheap enough. Additionally, their tread depth would not lend itself well to being a good r@!n option.

I am not familiar with the RS2 & 595RS. Who makes those?

Thank you for the contributions. I need to purchase by Monday morning. After sleeping on it, the choice will be my DD option as well.

I read an article, in Grassroots Motorsports IIRC, where they did a comparison of the top street tires and these were the ones reported on. They did both autocross and track tests with them. The results? RT-615 (but greased after ~3 laps), RE-01R, Neova, RS2, 595RS. Skip, if you are looking for a Time Attack tire, the Azenis seem like they may work the best. I have not checked the weights, but 275 Azenis have to be awfully heavy. Maybe that contributed to some of your dislike?

Skip,

We are currently running on Bridgestone RE01Rs on the S2000 and RSX for time attack. Ive run on the azenis too with pretty good luck. the bridgestones do tend to have a longer "sticky" life per track session.
Ive been very pleased with them, and the price is in line with the Falkens

If you are planning to run the VIR even in street, then i suggest pepboys cheapest futuras! lol! JK

I'll be running Modified there because I like running the full course. I believe the Street class is only running the Patriot course.

Based on the responses here, looks like I should lean toward the RE01R's for my DD/r@!n tire.
