A Suggestion to Speedventures
How 'bout hosting some auto-x events in SoCal?
I think these would appeal to a lot of people. These can be practice events, just like the local solo2 events, where it's timed and has 8 to 10 runs per driver. And drivers only need be there for morning or afternoon - two run groups in the morning, and two in the afternoon. The fees will be obviously much cheaper than track days at about $30 to $40.

I only know of two:

They don't host that many practice events and they fill up so quickly that, by the time I find out, the field is usually already full. Also, as a casual auto-x'er, I refuse to go to the championship events where you get only three runs the whole day.
So I figure, since the pracitice events fill up so quickly, maybe it's because there aren't enough of them? Or I just don't know where to look...

BMWCCA and POC also offer autocrosses, but I refuse to even try them out, based on what I've heard. Evidently, as a non-BMW owner you are required to let an instructor drive your car for your first run. If that isn't the world's dumbest rule, I don't know what is.
