Default Suspension comparison for track...

In advance, i think this thread belongs more-so in racing and competition than it does in the general suspesion forum. I am looking for a track only set of coilovers, so I am looking for more specialized opinions.

Hey guys,
I slowly putting together my weekend warrior, and I have come to a little bit of a dilemma...I am trying to decide between two sets of coilovers that I have chosen.

Mugen N1 Coilovers
Moton Clubsport 2-way.

I have two friends with the Mugen N1 who swear by them, and anyone who has gone for a drive with them feels the same. The dampening is great, the adjustability is very simple, and considering their spring rates ( i think something like 20/26, dont quote me on it though) the ride isnt that bad.

The other set i am considering is the Moton Clubsport. They are about $1000-1500 cheaper than the Mugen N1. Does anyone have experience with this coilover? I read some reviews online and people adore them, however most of those reviews have been from other forums (e.g. m3post, 6speed).

Both have excellent reviews from what I can tell, but I am wondering if there is enough of a difference to warrant the $1000+ difference. The money isnt excatly the problem in the equation, but I dont want to find myself paying too much for similar performance.

Here is a link for people who are interested:

From what i understand the n1 are differently valved, with higher spring rates than the NZ (heres the link to the nz anyway)

If anyone has any other opinions or options please do tell...

Moton's are considered one of, if not the, best in the business. I will let someone who has them comment in more detail, but the cars Ive ridden in and driven that have had them ride much smoother than other cars with equal spring rates. THe damping is extremeluy good out of the box and they can still be custom valved. You can put almost any spring rate on them, and I hear that they last just about forever.

If you can afford the Moton's then IMHO, the only other ones you should consider are Penske, Ohlins, and maybe AST

We ran Pensky's, then Moton's and now AST's on our car. We weren't fans of the pensky's and spent a lot of time playing with them but never felt like we got anywhere. The Moton's were a great step up from the pensky's but the price was painful. I sold the Moton's when we made the car a STU car from Touring 3. I used the money from selling the Moton's to buy wheels, tires, Brakes and a set of AST 5200's. Now I changed springs (from CR) but the car went 5 seconds a lap faster on the AST's then it did on the Moton's with CR springs. I don't honestly feel there is much of a measureable difference to justify the price. We run AST's on our mini as a street car and the ride is amazing for having 650lbs springs in it. The S2000 will never see street duty so I can't comment on the ride.

I will get flak for this. but Japanese companies can't build dampers.
I am sure there are some exceptions. but they are "exceptions".

post that opinion outside of the racing and competition sub forum and I bet you will get a different response.
