Theory Car Comparison
I've been autox'ing for a couple years now, and am seriously wanting to get out and start doing roadcourse events. That being said, a good buddy and I(fellow autox person) have been debating how our setups would do.
He started out with a strong drag racing background in a heavily modified stealth, and I have a very lightly mod'ed s2k. We've started debating what would happen in a match up on a road course with someone who was very experienced at each platform.
I figured you guys might have some insight to satisfy my curiousity... I realize that this would all be theoretical, and that would be nothing more then a best guess given the info I have...
He has a stealth with sport springs and about an inch drop with 265's on all corners... runs a 12.3 quarter mile... best guess he has 400+ awhp with stock weight
I have sport springs with about an inch drop, strut towers, 225/255, stock power for the most part... stock weight
when it comes to a roadcourse, best guess... think we would be even close in times with experienced driver in each car? Would his HP put him way ahead?

if the straightaway's are long enough, his HP will beat you...
At the track with the "longest front straight in north america" the laptime difference between a well-driven ITE CRX (100hp, top speed 115-118mph) and a modified STI (350hp, top speed 155mph+) is two seconds. That is the CRX will complete laps in less time. Racing tends to favor the lightweight.
Having an extra 150hp doesn't make a rip of difference at most tracks if you need to lug an extra 800lbs of useless weight. Engines modifications up the kazoo don't matter much when it comes to laptimes. Tires and weight matter the most.
The only way to have two drivers of equal skill is to have the same guy drive both cars. You can bench race this all day long, but until you take both cars to a track this whole discussion is really just a steaming pile of BS.
