So, I got my bonus check today from work, which I am going to promptly spend on my car!

I need to buy autoX tires and thought I'd see what options you guys are considering. I ran the 225/245 Victoracers last season, and I am pretty happy with them. They lasted almost the whole season (approx 16 events + Evolution phases I & II). So, here are my options:

1) Same as last year -- Kumho Victoracers 225/245 ($530)
2) New Hoosiers -- A3S04's 225's on all 4 corners ($736)
3) Old Hoosiers -- A3S03's 225/245 ($744)
4) Mix A3s04's and Kumho v710's -- A3S04 (225) in front, v710 (265) in back ($704)

What do you folks plan on getting to start out the season?

Kumho Victoracers 225/245's. They are by far the best bang for the buck!!! Are you planning on driving to the events, or do you have a tire trailer? If you are planning on driving to the events, I would stick with the Victoracers.

I ran A3SO3 Hoosiers for the first time earlier this month. Even though they were used, all I can say is WOW! I ran Kumho V700s for the past two years, and while they worked well, were durable, and did double duty on the track, the Hoosiers are grippier on the concrete surface I ran on. I have read that there isn't as much benefit to Hoosiers on asphalt, but I haven't run them on that surface yet myself.

Also, all of this data will be moot once the new Kumho V710s and Hoosier A3SO4 tires come out. The new Hoosiers for the rear of our car MAY be ready to the Fort Myers National Tour in Feb, and maybe not. If they are, that's what I'm going with in 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear.

Mitch was running the new A3S04s in Phoenix and they seem like they might be a bit better in damp conditions, but nothing revolutionary.

Hmm. We might have talked to him at different times, but both Mitch and his codriver Ralph were pretty excited about the A3S04s when I talked to them (after they'd run on them). Mitch felt they gripped a lot better than the old tires, but I'd take that with a bit of a grain of salt; there may have been some placebo effect at work. I'm not buying any new tires until the A3S04s become widely available, though.

If tires that last the entire season are a priority, then the Victoracers are still your best option -- the new Kumhos apparently have a Hoosier-like susceptibility to death by heat cycling well before they run out of tread.
