Default Tire dilemma

So I want to start running STR for local autox next year since I don't have the money or storage space for R-comps and previos experience has told me you are often better off in ST* with a stock car on street tires than trying to duke it out in stock... I am trying to decide between sticking with the OEM S-02's I'm running this year in order to have the wider tread or going to something like RE-11's...

so Here is the Question: Will RE-11 or similar perform better dispite the decrease in tread width due to the better technology? or Will the wider S-02 perform better due to wider tread.

Facts to consider
- I cannot afford new wheels for next year as I am still paying for college
- car's suspension will be stock except for my alignment
- my times with my current set-up and lack of experience on the S2k (came from FWD) would have me mid-pack in a neighboring regions STU2 class which has multiple miatas (NC and older) that have more prep work done than I
- My biggest concern is how much fun I am having and I want to run the fastest my budget will allow regardless of how competitive I am
- I am open to any other suggestions you all may have
- Once I graduate and get a real job (i will be a senior in sept) and STR's rules are set in stone I will start a real serious build so I would rather not half ass something now (i.e. cheaper/heavier wheels) and have to re-do it later

No front bar? Are you planning on running a staggered or square setup?

I'd get the star specs, I had them in 205/225 and they are better than s02's and they are cheaper.

Agree w/ dan_uk on the Dunlop Star Specs.
Pretty much equivalent tire for way less $$$, I'm riding on 205/55 F, 225/50 R *Specs now.

Sweet! thanks guys I really appreciate it... I also like the symetrical tread so I can flip them when the insides get worn
