I, along with several followers of this board will be attending a performance driving school in about a week. For the experienced out there, what have you found as the best tire pressure with the SO-2 OEM tires for this tipe of event? The track is Texas World Speedway.

I had pretty good luck letting them get up to 40/41 when hot so where you start depends upon temperature, maybe 35 - 37 when cool. Some simply use 32 - 33 right off the street.

I'm certainly not "experienced", but I'll reply anyway. Having just completed my first ever event of this type at thunderhill in no. Cal., I had the same concerns. After the last session, where I finally started to push the car a little bit (for me anyway), I asked my instructor to look at the wear pattern on the tires, and he said it looked "about right". I had started the day at 32 psi cold at all four corners. Hope this helps.

Like Chris I've found 36 cold to be a good tire pressure for the track. At lower pressures the tires roll over too much. I also like the way the car feels at that pressure. They're usually around 40-42 hot after my run session.

Thanks guys. I'll probably try 35-36 lbs. and see what it's like. For those of us who are just starting this, or still fairly new anyway, every little bit of advice helps.

I am down with the others, my experience proves that 36/cold works beautifully...

Good luck!

Hey-

With the Mugen sway bar, I used these pressures on the stock tires...

39psi front
34psi rear

Pressures were measured cold. I had no problems with sidewalls collapsing, and no traction problems either. I like that pressure setup so much I use it on the street (actually, I'm just too lazy to reset it).

You may want to use slightly lower pressures if you are driving under extremely hot conditions.

When I was first learning AutoX, I liked my tire pressures at 38-40psi hot. I tend to overdrive the car and the crisp feedback from the higher pressures allowed me to drive the car on the edge. Now, I am a smoother driver and hope to be able to control the car with lower tire pressures of about 35psi. The gain is more ultimate tire grip, but at the expense of control at the limit.

Tex_S2K,

Do you plan to change the tire pressure to 36 cold before driving up to TWS or change it at the track?

And that means 36 all around right?

See you at TWS this weekend.

I'll probably go to 35-36 lbs all around on Saturday morning when the tires are cold. I'll check them after the first track time to see what the hot pressure is, adjust as needed. See ya there!
