Tire Pressure for the track?
#12
A number of us at the track this weekend found that higher pressures may make the car a bit more responsive, but do noticeably reduce grip.
I reduced pressures three times and was faster when the hot pressure was about 38, so cold they were probably 32. Although I was on race compound, I talked with two others that had the same experience with OEM tires. (and a Supra driver than ran even lower pressures).
All of the drivers I talked with had tires with very stiff sidewalls so maybe this is a bit different for those with lighter tires (Toyo, Hoosiers, etc).
Keep in mind that pressure goes up and down with ambient temperature so a tire filled at 40F will be over inflated when it is 80F. And a very cold tire that is pushed hard getting very hot can show more than a six pound rise in pressure.. even a few miles of rolling will bring the temp up a few degrees.
As noted above you just have to adjust for the conditions.

I started out the first day at 36. This was about right for the first day; wear indication was just at the sidewall and hot temp was about 42. Second day in the rain and with slower speeds, I bled off 4 lbs after the first run, back to the normal 32 street pressure. Bottom line, I learned a lot this weekend, including checking tire wear indication at the sidewall and adjusting pressure after each run if needed. Thanks to all the other guys there for your tips and assistance.

I have mine at 38psi cold.
That is the same pressure I use on regular street driving.
I just feel I can control the car better at the limit with 38psi cold than 32psi cold.
Since I didn't track the lap times, I can not tell which pressure provide better lap times.
