seeing him after the fact, I'd certainly say his "stud" was shortened.

I do like that he remembered to use the e-brake.

I've forgotten to torque down my lug nuts (only once, on my S2000 after putting my stock tires/wheels back on after an event!), and the lug nuts take quite some time to back off, and only come off one at a time, over many days (fortunately, I noticed before any wheel had lost more than one lug nut).

The guessing on our local autox group is that he used the wrong lug nuts. He thought they were tight, but the were a bit too large, so that all came flying off in a turn.

That's what the speculation coming from the home region is...Owner had just bought new lug nuts, and maybe they were M14x1.5 instead of M12x1.5. They held just well enough to torque to 75 ft*Lbs, but not well enough to cope with a 1g turn.

He must not have started them by hand. You'd have to notice that amount of slop if you put one on by hand.

When you buy new hardware, always test fit it carefully before bringing it to an autocross where you're speeding through a routine.
