As above, i use tow straps front and rear (TRS ones though). They can be hidden behind the bumper for normal day to day use.

I have rings like those pictured, but if I were to buy again, I'd get straps. Straps are a lot friendlier to shins.

hmmm i like that idea...tuck away for normal use...yank em out for the track.

do you bolt the strap to the factory tow point? or drill a hold and install on the bottom of the bumper beam. if in the factory location do the straps fit nicely though the hole?

I take my hooks on and off after track days. Then again my car is not a daily driver.

I decided to go with tow straps. I mounted both of them to the OEM tow hook location with a bolt, washers, and a lock washer. The rear was easy as it bolted right on and comes out the OEM location. The front took some cutting and finessing, and I had to cut a slot in the front bumper for the strap to come out at a good angle. I liked the idea of the welded/threaded OEM location versus just drilling a hole in the thin bumper brace metal. I also went with the red Sparco ones. Hard to beat for $15 a piece. I paid a ton more for the I/O Port ones I use on my SpecE30 racecar.

What diameter and pitch bolts did you use? I currently have solid tow hooks installed and after whacking my shins on them more than once, I'd prefer to use a strap. Just not sure which bolts to use.

M12x1.75. I got the hardware from Lowes, but I will probably purchase some stronger hardware from McMaster-Carr.

If you use a strap through a slot in the bumper you'll need a lot of clearance for the strap as its getting pulled from different angles, I think a better solution would be to use a stand-off and bolt to that so the entire piece is clear of the bumper skin.

My brothers tow hook after Ringo pulled him off a while back:

I've been very happy with straps. I mounted straps to front and rear bumper. No cutting of bumper cover required. Details of front here. http://sectoronedesign.wordpress.com...ont-tow-strap/

Pictures of rear in other blog posts. Both tuck out of the way when not in use.
