Default Track Car Maintenance

Hi all

I was wondering what maintenance is necessary for track s2ks?

I have an '04 AP2 with 130k miles, pretty much stock with a HFC and exhaust. This year I did about 10 track days, and next I plan to do more.

These are the changes I do regularly:
-Mobil 1 syn 10w-30 motor oil
-Mobil 1 syn 75w-140 diff fluid
-OEM trans fluid

-ATE blue brake fluid
-rear wheel bearings (changed recently)
-tct replaced recently

I feel like with a higher mileage car I have to be more diligent with maintenance. Is there anything else s2ks require for track duty?

Thx

Here is what I have done this year. I won't get into brands of fluids since it is like religion to some and I don't want this to turn into a debate. Just use a high end oil for all 3 fluids.

11 Track Days for about 880 minutes on track. No real street driving other than to and from the tracks.

3 oil and filter changes. 1 more after this weekend.

2 transmission fluid changes

2 Diff fluid changes

1 full brake bleed. Several quick bleeds with top off.

Rear Wheel bearings with new hubs this year. Might get away with just bearings mid way through next year if I get them out earlier.

1 Valve adjustment

1 set of plugs during valve adjustment.

That's about all I can remember doing. Do not run low on oil and check your oil filter often as they can come loose as well.

Replace brake lines every 2-3 years.

Retorque spark plugs.

Cool, what kind of spark plugs do you use? OEM?

Mahjik I've read Robrob's site, but wondering if anything else is required.

I should do valve adjustment soon and replace the valve cover gasket since it leaks a little bit.

For valve adjustment I read somewhere where people go to one edge of the clearance spec for 'performance' gains...

Hmmm I usually dont think about everything I do in a year, just have a set rhythm. The more you think about it the more inclined you are to add up the costs.

I only did 11 track days on my S2k this year.

I change my oil every 3-4 track days (depending on the tracks I visit).

I get the engine oil analyzed every oil change to see how wear is trending. The analysis keeps telling me I can go longer intervals but ive found a happy equilibrium and like getting 4 samples per year.

2 Trans fluid changes (or every 5-6 days)

2 Diff fluid changes (or every 5-6 days)

1 wheel bearing (change them as needed)

I flush brake fluid once a year and bleed as needed (no longer very frequent with the BBK. With stock brakes was every track day)

1 new clutch (blew up my throw out bearing and no sense in putting it back together with the old stuff)

1 set of plugs

1 valve adjustment

1 coolant flush (I will typically do this before summer since we always seem to pick the most miserably hot tracks in June/July/August for S2KC)

Re-align the car after any day with a good off or every 3 track days.

My choices in fluids are:

Amsoil 10w30 signature series
Amsoil MTF for trans
Amsoil 75w90 severe gear for diff
Motul RBF 660 brake fluid
OEM honda blue diluted to 80/20 plus water wetter for coolant.

I think you'll find most people that track often have similar schedules. The only thing I would recommend is start doing engine oil analysis. The sooner you start establishing a history and baseline, the sooner you will be able to detect something might be going wrong and start saving your pennies or do preventative maintenance.

Its worth noting I originally used the same fluids as you when I started tracking my S2k and I changed based on the frequency I had to re-bleed brakes and the results of engine oil analysis.

I did 10 track days on my oil and when I got it analyzed they said I can go more. Feels weird to go a year but they said its fine.

Chec the bearings and suspension bolts every 3-4 track days. Check engine for leaks every 3-4 track days

Make sure you check your wheels everytime they come off. Quick visual will show cracks or fatigue

It's really not what to check, but more of how often. You aren't really checking anything different than you should normally maintaining your car. What changes is the frequency of checking/replacing due to the increased wear by harder driving.
