Default Track day Insurance

Does anyone if the company they use for insurance covers HPDE? I know most companies don't cover anything on a track these days and mine just sent me a letter with a revision that prevents me from being covered so I am on the look out for a new company. Also anyone ever gotten track day insurance for an event? I looked into but it seemed overly expensive.

It's not overly expensive considering the generally high risk environment you are in and the amount of coverage you're asking for. I haven't done it myself but I plan to do so maybe this year. I have to double check the clauses of the various HPDE insurance options out there but say you hit an armco, not only does it suck if you ended up totaling your car but you also have to pay the track to get that armco replaced which isn't cheap. The good thing though is that if you do an entire track weekend, the coverage usually covers the entire event (including both days if you go the whole weekend) for the same price.

You will find HPDE insurance available with a couple caveats.

First, you will need to be driving with a recognized sanctioning body (scca, nasa, BMWCCA, PCA, etc). I suspect this allows the insurance company to know the event is run to some minimum standard.

Second, you will need to select the event to be covered. i.e. each time you track you will need to select coverage for that specific event. There is no general HPDE insurance coverage that just allows you to be covered for all driving for a year.

Lastly, expect higher deductibles and generally the policies are for stated values.

BMW CCA and PCA use a company called Lockton Affinity. I believe they also cover nasa and scca events. If you search around I think there are one or two other companies out there.
