He went off the track into a deep gravel trap and rolled. Umm, is that not possible at any closed-track event?

Am I the only one that thinks that it would be fun to drift around a track like that? I'm about 1/3 of the way there on some of my runs. I've hit the steering stops in my Miata on a track day while countersteering. (I learned that you DO in fact need to brake for that corner despite the 50 mph headwind that day. And no, I didn't spin or roll my car.)

We call it 'ice racing' up here. Contact is quite minimal and rollovers happen about as often as they do in 'normal' summer racing. Being door-to-door at a 45-degree angle with the guy you're racing without ever touching is FREAKING awesome.

Granted, if no one expects you to pitch it sideways then you're going to surprise a few people. But if no one (the rules, officials, fellow track drivers, etc.) told him he couldn't - where is the issue? It looks like he mostly avoided large slip angles when in close proximity to others.

Crummy that it ended with a rolled car though.
