Scary stuff. For my first oil change I used the PCX filter tightened the recommended 7/8 turn. Has anyone had specific issues with this?
You mean like the OP? Yes, there have been other threads on this problem since I've been on S2ki.com.
I will look into it more, but I thought the issue was more with "hand tight" on the filter which is pretty standard for other spin on filters but not good enough for the S2k.

altiain, were you using the PCX tightened with a filter wrench?

Most of the past threads can be directly related to not properly searing the filter and tightening it to the required spec. I too had this issue and the root cause on my street driven car. For me the sandwich plate compounded the problem. I have never had an issue since in either my street car or track car.

I too have a large stock pile of spare parts.

I always use the Honda PCM filter wrench. I tighten it 7/8's, using the filter markings. I also use my torque wrench while tightening, set to amount indicated on the filter.

Make sure you guys are also checking the oil cooler nut (the big 30mm one that the oil filter screws on to and sandwitches the oil cooler on). Mine backed out on me and spewed oil all over the back straight at Road Atlanta. I guess it came loose from repeated oil filter changes.

I was using a Mobil1 filter, same as I have in all my other cars (street and track) for over a decade. What is this PCX filter you're referring to?

Filter was more than hand tight. I usually snug up my filters with a wrench after install. FWIW I had 1800 miles and one other track day on this oil change when the failure occurred.

Thanks for the parts offers guys. I think I've got most of it covered at this point. If I find anything else during the repair I'll holler here first!

Was it the OEM PCX part number filter that backed off?
I've heard about non-oem filters backing off even on the street. A friend had his car serviced at honda and they used the wrong one which backed off and torched his engine bay.

I've always used the OEM PCX and never had a problem though sometimes its a struggle to buy them sometimes when Honda try and give u the wrong one.

Hey, you guys. I'm going to have LJ at Full Blown Motorsports http://fullblownmotorsports.com/ take a look and see if he can create something that functions similarly for much cheaper. Obviously that price is crazy. He does a lot of aluminum and metal fabrication and remanufactured our Quaife tranny adaptor plate for less than that, lol.
