Default Tracking an S2000

For hardcore s2000 track guys, I'm wondering what tends to usually break after prolonged abused? I have an 08 STI that I track maybe 2-4x a month and had it skip timing; was very close to bending my valves and having a dent in the pistons.

I met Maxrev at Buttonwillow the same day and was inspired to look at s2000s again. I just want to get an idea of what might break if I'm romping on it all the time so I can figure out what the budget will look like compared to my STI.

Thanks guys!

I suggest you post this in the Racing & Compitetion subforum. That's where the track pros hang out.

That's the nature of Subaru's. That's why you see almost none in the advanced group around the DC area. Engine failure is inevitable, it's just a matter of when. I've moved away from Subaru's for the same reason, that and the INSANE comsumables costs.

I suppose that would also depend on your setup and how fast you are. Any tips on this? Once we get a better idea of what your goal is, the more experienced guys will surely chime in.

Added a topic subtitle ("What breaks on track S2000s?") since the original title describes just about every post in this forum.

As a driver I would say I'm not that fast, but my car has around 350whp and 387wtq with a bigger turbo on pump gas. Not super fast, but decent improvement over stock. We ran it in EVO vs STI last week at Buttonwillow when it broke and in the first 2 laps, it ran a 2.05 on 340tw Conti tires very early in the morning as a warm up. With real tires, race gas, I think it can break below 2 easily.

With me driving it I'm probably in the low 2s on pump gas and tires like Bridgestone RE-01R. My goal is stock power, reliable, maybe some suspension and aero modifications, but will handle road racing and autox at least 2 times every month. No drag racing, no launches, not much street driving.

I've heard from other people about issues with rear diff, transmission; I want to hear from guys who actually have the car and track it all the time to get a better idea.

Btw I just went to test drive an AP2 at South Coast Acura and wow it's freakin underpowered like no other. It must handle like its on rails!? I'm just mind boggled that Maxrev can do a 2 flat or faster on an almost stock S2000. Simply amazing.

I'm going through rear wheel bearings like nobody's business. Getting like 8 track days on a set. Had to get 'em replaced twice since I bought the car 2 1/2 years and 16 track days ago. (Just replaced them for the 2nd time prior to my last track day two weeks ago).
