Urmil-

The ride with Jason was veeeerrrry exciting to put it mildly. Can't imagine being Brad or Jullian and having to endure the entire 311 curves......Yak!!!

The Insight is a great little car. The damn thing gets 60 miles to the gallon so you've got to like that! I'd give it an A+ on comfort. The cars got a ton of room if it's just you and a friend. I'm sure you can haul as much in it as an S2000. Performance is ...... well performance is probably not the right word ..... hmmmmm. Lets just say the car has plenty of pep for one with a gas/electric motor. I was pleasantly suprised with how much power it had and how well it handled the first time I drove it. Although I'm a bit critical of it now that I have a car with the power of the Stook. If your looking for an around town commuter then it's a great choice. I've also driven ours on a couple of 6-800 milers and really enjoyed it. So trips aren't out of the question. I think it's as safe as any 1850lb car can be in this world of 18 wheelers and SUV's. Oh, and it's been totally reliable for over 13K miles.

Bottom line I'd highly recommend it.

Several of the Chicago crew drove it while they were here. Maybe they can chime in here to.

As for the yellow leather, I'm very satisfied with it although I did hear a few comments about it's "Pimpyness". What is that they say about jealousy? I saw your silver/black before you left Sunday and thought it looked great to!

Can't blame them for being envious, they wanted to be pimps too!!!

As for the Insight, I've been contemplating on it, but am worried about the cold winter drives here in Chicago.

Maybe my dealer will let me take one for a test drive...I'm also looking for a third daily driver type that will suffice the fiance...cars up for discssion are:

Insight,
'99 or '00 Civic Si (used),
'95 to '99 Civic Hatchback (quite possible GSR motor transplant),
CR-V (but need to add something for more pep),
4 runner (don't know if I like this as a daily driver, though it would make a nice tow vehicle if I get started into autox),
or a Suburu sport wagon.

What I am looking for is a car/mini SUV that is practical on performance and efficiency, yet sporty enough with some zip. I also need it to be a mini-hauler. The Insight may not be a hauler...but it's practicality in today's time of inflated gas prices outweigh alot of its minuses. Again the Civic Si isn't a hauler, but its sportiness and somewhat efficient nature offsets it. The Civic hatch and CR-V, are great little haulers but leave something to be desired in the "pep" area (especially if Ronica's going to be driving it). The 4 Runner is great, but not as efficient plus I'd rather Ronica be driving something more nimble than tank-like.

The Suburu wagons are great for all I'm looking for, but in a different price category (like the 4Runner) for what I'm looking for used. I also want a car that I am not going to worry about on a day to day basis like I do the Prelude or the S2K.

I will copy and keep going with this thought later tonight in the off-topic forumn....thanks for any advice guys (especially Mack...for which the motiviation I am going to the Honda dealer because of) <-----I know, my grammar there was atrocious, but I'm in a hurry to leave the office now.

Ole - Here's a couple of links to previous discussions about hitches. The most elegant solution is the custom-made hitch that Scarv talks about in the second link (pictures).

BTW, I had to miss another fun autocross due to that all-consuming manuscript. How was the E.R. event? Did Frank give you any trouble?

Florida ER is still active? Do they have a web site? I've belonged to Dallas version of ER (Equipe Rapide) for 30 years. I'm told a founding member borrowed the name when he moved here from Florida.

Joshua,
Want to have a little hitch install/trailer building party? I think there is a Northern Tool in N. Miami.

If you've got more questions shoot. I'll post more picks when I get the hitch mounted and get the trailer out of the garage!

I'm glad someone is making trailers like these. About ten years ago, I built one of a similar design from one of the $150 kits sold by Menard's (now also sold at Northern) and used an ABS plastic pickup truck box on the back. The whole rig cost about $300 and was light, strong, waterproof and would run all day at 80 mph behind my Miata.

However, old age and treachery has set in, and I'd rather not build another one myself. So, if I may ask, what's a SouthSport trailer cost? I haven't been able to find prices anywhere. Thanks.

I know what you mean; they're called "Bearing Buddies" (or something similar) and are used on boat trailers, because the bearings are susceptible to getting flushed out by being in water all the time. As I recall, we didn't use them on our trailers because they were just too expensive for our limited budgets. And, of course, there's nothing like the intense emotional experience of having a handful of bearing grease on a lonely Saturday night before an autocross!

Spa2K-

SouthSport makes 2 models:

UT-45 @ 795.00
UT-60 @ 920.00

The differnce in the two are the width tires you can haul. On the UT-45 the max is 20.5" per pair.

Shipping runs about 180.00

The quality fit and finish is excellent.
