Default Transmission Options

Just finished up the first race weekend in the AP2 S2000 where we took first place in the 9 hour endurance race.

Unfortunately I found that the 4th gear sychro is pretty much gone. Up and downshift into 4th and unless you shift slow and deliberate, you get a grind.

Searching around on the forum yeilded me nothing but a bunch of threads with people saying replace it with a used one. The next race coming up is a 24 hour race, and I'm not interested in buying a used gear box thats probably not in any better of shape.

I am also not interested in the investment required to go to a dog box.

So what synchro's are you guys using? oem the best bet? any high quality aftermarket replacements of any kind?

You can try ppg I know they make upgrades for subarus. The only other trany I know of for the s2k is quaife ones for an upgrade

Link to ppg synchro ones they also have straight cut

Those are not synchros them selves. Those are gear sets. Dog Box Style Gear Sets, and Synchro Style Gear Sets

The factory gear sets are more than adequate for my application, just trying to source a quality synchro.

Buy a used stock transmission ~$400-600 pending mileage

I don't think anyone else makes syncros for our transmissions

That's why you only see people using ppg gearsets or just going all out with a quaife

If you can do all the work yourself then yeah, just swap in a new OEM 4th gear set.

Congrats on 1st.
