Default Transmission Synchros

As of right now one weakness is the S2000's transmission and the synchro's within. Right now, nobody makes a stronger/better synchronizer for the S2000. A few times I have contacted Synchrotech Transmissions Inc. who are arguably the best when it comes to aftermarket transmissions and synchros for Hondas and Acuras, and they have said there isn't enough of a market for them to develop syncrhos. I created this group to show just the opposite, that there is. So join up! After we get a favorable number of people joined, I will bring it to Synchrotech so that hopefully they will see the value in them creating something for the S2000 community. The group is open, so invite anyone and everyone you know with an S2000!

Maybe learn to use the transmission properly instead? Don't think I've ever had a problem on a transmission and that's over 8 years of driving S2000's.

I know how to use my transmission properly. I have never had an issue with mine, BUT there are those that have. AND for vehicles with much more power, better/stronger synchros are a major plus.

Not a matter of driving properly, things wear out....and when you track your car for fun or competition wear is much greater. At this point it is a cheaper option to find a used transmission and hope it is ok. It would be nice to be able to freshen up a S2000 transmission without having to buy the whole synchro/gearset from Honda. I have owned and driven my S2000 for nearly 10 years, and my 5th synchro has started to go out....buying the 5th gear synchro gear set is about $200 bucks. Synchrotech sells the full synchro set for a K series for around $300. Not saying it would be that cheap for the S, but would have to be better than doing them all via Honda parts.

I don't think you'll get the interest to start production. With the V160 transmission now being a bolt-on ordeal, there's not point in dumping money into our less than stellar tranny.

I was just busting your balls. I imagine the synchro market is thin because the cost of a replacement used transmission is somewhat low for the car and readily available. I could be wrong, FWIW.

I agree, used trannys are fairly low....but you never know what you're getting and parts/supplies to rebuild them even with OEM parts are becoming more and more scarce. Unfortunately.

The synchros can go, but getting them rebuilt is not that big of a deal.

And AP2 trannies use carbon fiber instead of the wimpy soft brass.

If you're looking for a stronger tranny overall, you'll be disappointed if you only upgrade synchros. The helical gears lose teeth and thin shafts tend to flex.

For street driving, buy used tranny or rebuild yours. They last a long time.

For competition, you may be bound by limitations of your race class.

For boosted street driving, upgrading synchros won't get you anywhere.

not to mention on the track if you rev match you're not really using the synchros that much

You still are....it doesn't matter how "perfect" your driving style is, they are still a wear and tear item that at some point... maybe 10K miles, maybe 50K miles, maybe 200K miles, they will need replacing. My quest is just to find an alternative to the overpriced OEM synchros that are not only cheaper, but stronger. Parts are becoming more scarce and as more teens get their paws on this car and beat the crap out of them, our supply of reliable used transmissions and other parts diminishes. There will be a point in time where we will desperately need/want a second company out there making synchronizers for us to keep ourselves on the road. That is the sole purpose of my quest, to have options.
