I just built a new head with PSI springs/retainers and Supertech valves. I picked it up from the machine shop and added some oil to the valvetrain for assembly and noticed there was only a few thousandths of an inch between the spring and cylinder head wall. I haven't measured it yet, but will tonight. Drag Cartel said that my machine shop should have check it before assembly. Machine shop said there was no instructions on the new PSI springs. See below.
Ideally, I want to avoid having to disassembly and bringing it back to the machine shop to shave the areas (or DIY it with a dremel). Have you guys had to this before? How much clearance is necessary to account for thermal expansion and vibration of the springs?
I measured and it's about .08 of an inch... stupid tight. So with the vibration of the springs, and thermal expansion that makes me feel like it will rub. I'm going to remove the springs and Dremel the area down.
I called drag cartel and said it's rare this happens but It comes up if the machining of the head is off from the factory. The machine shop said that I never told them the springs were larger than OEM so they installed them as is. I was pretty pissed they didn't call it out and flag it as a risk.
