Default VIR lap times

Good afternoon, just curious what kinds of lap times you guys are doing at VIR on the full coruse? Please indicate mods to car and experience as a driver. I am almost a newbie (2 years of DEs) and have just sold a mod'ed Miata to buy a stock AP1 S2 (+ roll bar, seats, hearnesses, CarboTechs and Hankooks) so I am wondering what to expect.

That is the only reason I ask the question, simply as a benchmark, not to get into a pissing match as to who is faster than whom.

Thanks!

When are you going? NASA MidA feb or march event? HPDE you shouldn't be timing On street tires probably around 2:30 maybe lower.

why shouldn't you time for HPDE?

Measurement is the key to success

uh, yeah, thats true.... Porsche Club is pretty liberal about such things and frankly I think it helps a lot with consistancy. I know people disagree with the whole timing thing and it is hard to get claim covered by insurance i you are timing, but oh well! I am going the Zone 2 PCA event in March and hopefully First Settlers PCA in May. I did two back to back 2:29s in a bone stock 2004 Acura TL 6 speed with HP+ pads (still my daily driver) my first time at VIR...I hope I am faster in the S2!!

I think what JFO was saying is the HPDE is more about becoming comfortable with the car and the track, learning your braking points, turn-in points, apex points and exiting turns as opposed to the overall speed in which to get around the track. TT is more the venue for getting lap times.

Have you run with the PCA before? My understanding is they are strict about non-Porsche's not being allowed to run with them. Or is that decision chapter to chapter?

it does vary chapter to chapter. The Potomac region is a Porsche-only region. The events are well run and the crowd is very laid back, doesn't seem like everyone is out to prove something, they are there to have a good time.

BTW, I did 2:29s my scond time to VIR...not my first. :-)

I can remember sucking complete ass my first visit to VIR in my race car.... I ran 2:22-2:23 i think on michelin cups.....Stock gears and a wing that I positioned like a wall for some odd reason.

I would imagine if I went with my old race car I should be down around 2:12 at the worst.... I think the Yellowstreak car made it around in 2:12 something and my lap times were faster than theirs....

I ran 2:29 in a Miata (coilovers and RA-1s and open diff) according to my TrackMate. The reason that John says that NASA frowns on timing is that the insurance for the event covers a "High Performance Drivers Education" event not a race. If the insurance company can find any evidence that timing was used the insurance coverage is null and void.

The nasa people need to lay off the . They have the same ins as the rest of nasa. Nasa rents timing out here.

Many of the clubs have some policies based on FUD, not reality. It's quite frustrating.
